France winger Franck Ribery has been ruled out of the World Cup through injury, along with teammate Clement Grenier, it was confirmed on Friday afternoon.
Newspaper L'Equipe reported from the French World Cup camp that the two players had lost their fitness battle and would be sent home from the 23-man squad, and the news was then confirmed by coach Didier Deschamps.
Ribery, who has been struggling with a back problem, and Grenier will be replaced in the squad by Remy Cabella of Montpellier and Southampton's Morgan Schneiderlin respectively.
France's World Cup campaign begins against Honduras on June 15.
