Steve von Bergen taken to hospital following blow to head

Switzerland defender Steve von Bergen is receiving treatment for a suspected fractured cheekbone after receiving a blow to the head against France at the World Cup.

Switzerland defender Steve von Bergen has been taken to hospital after receiving a blow to the head early in their match against France at the World Cup this evening.

The Young Boys centre-back had to be substituted just nine minutes into the clash in Salvador after picking up a cut near his left eye.

ITV Sport reports that he has been transported to a nearby hospital with a suspected cheekbone fracture, while the team's doctor was also concerned about his eye socket.

Von Bergen has earned 41 caps since making his international debut in 2006.
