Gateshead's Gary Mills: 'We can pull off an upset against West Bromwich Albion'

Gateshead boss Gary Mills insists that his side have the confidence to pull off an upset in their FA Cup match against West Bromwich Albion.

Gateshead boss Gary Mills believes that his side are capable of pulling off an upset in their third-round clash against West Bromwich Albion in the FA Cup.

The Conference side have failed to progress beyond the third round since 1953 when they reached the quarter-finals of the competition.

Mills has admitted that his team are in for a tough task against the Premier League outfit at The Hawthorns, who will be under the charge of Tony Pulis for the first time since his appointment earlier this week.

Mills told the club's official website: "As I've said before, this is what I came to this football club for. You enjoy the occasion, but being a football manager, there's a burning desire to get a result.

"I don't want to go there and say, 'we were expected to lose' – because that's the easy way out. We have to go there with a belief. I've got good players. I know what their capabilities are. And we're going to go there with that desire to get a result.

"It's going to be hard, of course it is. West Brom are a good side, no matter what's happening in their own season. As a Premier League side, we shouldn't get near them – but I feel we can."

Gateshead beat Warrington Town in the last round to set up the match against the Baggies.
