Gillingham manager Peter Taylor has praised the work rate of his team after they reached the Southern Area final of the Johnstone's Paint Trophy.
John Egan netted with a header during the closing stages to earn Gillingham a 1-0 win over Leyton Orient.
Taylor, who is in his second spell at the Priestfield Stadium, believes that their run in the competition has benefited the morale within his team.
The 61-year-old told the club's official website: "The boys grafted and fought for everything. The JPT has been important and enabled us to get some confidence."
Gillingham will face either Bristol City or Coventry City for a place at Wembley.
