Groningen edge out Willem II, move up to eighth in Eredivisie

Erwin van de Looi's Groningen score a late winner to take all three points in their home clash against Willem II, moving up to eighth in the Eredivisie with the victory.

Groningen edged out Willem II in their Eredivisie clash, as Danny Hoesen scored a late winner.

Mimoun Mahi found the target for Groningen after 24 minutes, giving his side the lead while recording his fifth league goal of the season.

Albert Rusnak provided the assist for Mahi, who has now scored five of Groningen's last eight goals.

An 86th-minute Etienne Reijnen own goal levelled the scores as Willem II looked like they could steal a point at the Euroborg.

However, Reijnen made up for his mistake immediately by setting Danny Hoesen in behind the Willem defence to net the winner.

Erwin van de Looi's side move up to eighth in the table, while Willem remain in 14th.
