Guingamp held by Bastia

Bastia move seven points clear of the Ligue 1 relegation zone by playing out a goalless draw with Guingamp.

Bastia moved another step further away from the Ligue 1 relegation zone thanks to a goalless draw with Guingamp at the Stade Armand Cesari.

It was Guingamp who took charge of the contest in the first half, and they threatened to taken an early lead when the lively Sylvain Marveaux cut in from the wing before forcing Alphonse Areola to tip a powerful effort over.

Bastia rarely caused problems for the visiting back four, while a nervy home defence continued to offer encouragement to Guingamp, who went close again before the break when Christophe Mandanne struck a low effort straight at Areola after a loose ball broke to him in the box.

The hosts improved after the interval and Abdoulaye Keita came agonisingly close to handing his side the lead when a free kick drifted just wide of the post.

However, their eagerness to commit more men forward created chances for Guingamp, and only a poor touch from Mandanne in the box rescued Bastia from conceding on the break.

It was Bastia who finished the stronger of the two sides, but Jonas Lossl made fine saves from Floyd Ayite and Gael Danic to ensure that the points were shared.
