Hamburger SV knocked out by fourth division Carl Zeiss Jena

Bundesliga outfit Hamburger SV are knocked out of the DFB-Pokal thanks to a 3-2 defeat at the hands of fourth division outfit Carl Zeiss Jena.

Bundesliga outfit Hamburger SV have succumbed to a shock 3-2 defeat in extra time at the hands of fourth division side Carl Zeiss Jena in their DFB-Pokal first round clash at the Ernst-Abbe-Sportfeld.

The hosts, who ply their trade in the Regionalliga Nordost, took the lead on the quarter-hour mark through Justin Gerlach's free kick.

Hamburg rallied round and equalised early in the second half when Ivo Ilicevic's cross was prodded home by Ivica Olic, but were behind again just before the hour as Velimir Jovanovic edged the Thuringia side back in front.

Just as it seemed like Carl Zeiss would hang on to the win, Michael Gregoritsch bundled in a 94th-minute equaliser for the visitors to take the game to extra time.

The fourth division side, however, held their nerve and were rewarded by going in front for the third time in the game through Johannes Pieles's header, which finally proved enough to give them an historic win.
