Hannover president Martin Kind has asked for a list of names to be drawn up as possible replacements for current head coach Mirko Slomka.
Hannover have struggled so far this season and find themselves 13th in the Bundesliga table, just four points clear of the relegation playoff place following Saturday's 2-1 defeat at the hands of struggling Freiburg.
While Kind insists that he had not begun interviewing candidates over taking the job, he warns that big decisions would be made in the near future.
"We may not be in the relegation zone, but we've clearly not reached our objective and the performances have not developed satisfactorily," Kind told NDR television.
"I have asked [director of sport] Mr Dufner to write down some names and profiles. We haven't started any negotiations but we are, of course, checking out the market.
"There are many components which all must fit together and we've now got to hold these talks with a responsibility and also fairness, but we've necessarily got to make decisions."
Slomka, who has been in charge of the club since 2010, has only seen his side win once in their last 12 matches in all competitions.
