Saturday's League One predictions including Charlton Athletic vs. Birmingham City

Sports Mole provides score predictions and previews for all of today's League One fixtures, including Charlton Athletic vs. Birmingham City.

Huddersfield vs. Barnsley (Saturday, 12.30pm)

Barnsley will travel to the John Smith's Stadium on Saturday to take on Huddersfield Town in a Yorkshire derby.

The hosts have quickly dropped to 15th spot in the League One table following four consecutive defeats, while their visitors sit eighth on the back of a pair of draws.

We say: Huddersfield Town 1-1 Barnsley

Both keen to record a statement victory after somewhat unconvincing starts to their promotion bids this term, we anticipate a close-fought Yorkshire derby at the John Smith's Stadium.

The loss of Phillips is a major blow for Barnsley going forward, and while they have the quality to trouble an out-of-sorts Huddersfield team, we see a draw as the most likely outcome with Duff desperate to stop the rot against his former club.

Peterborough vs. Stevenage (Saturday, 12.30pm)

The first of two matches in a Peterborough United-Stevenage double-header, the two League One clubs clash in Saturday lunchtime's third-tier affair at Weston Homes Stadium.

Darren Ferguson's side will then reunite with their visitors three days later in the EFL Trophy, and the hosts will no doubt welcome a return to familiar turf after a pitiful time of things on the road.

We say: Peterborough United 0-1 Stevenage

Peterborough may have been scoring for fun before being swept aside by Wigan, but Ferguson's men will be ruing the loss of their captain against one of the best defensive sides in the division.

Stevenage do not score many themselves, but as was the case in midweek, Revell's side can break the deadlock and shut up shop against their injury-hit visitors to continue their playoff push.

Bolton vs. Shrewsbury (Saturday, 3.00pm)

Bolton Wanderers will look to claim a fourth consecutive league victory when they play host to Shrewsbury Town on Saturday.

The Trotters are sitting in 11th place in the League One table, while the Shrews are currently languishing in the relegation zone.

We say: Bolton Wanderers 3-1 Shrewsbury Town

Bolton will be full of confidence after claiming three consecutive league victories, and we think that they will produce another strong display to condemn struggling Shrewsbury to their sixth defeat of the League One season.

Burton Albion vs. Bristol Rovers (Saturday, 3.00pm)

League One strugglers Burton Albion welcome fellow bottom-half side Bristol Rovers to the Pirelli Stadium on Saturday afternoon.

The Brewers did the double over the Pirates last season, including a 4-1 home win in October 2023.

We say: Burton Albion 1-2 Bristol Rovers

At least three goals have been scored in each of Burton's and Bristol Rovers' last five league games, so another entertaining contest with plenty of goalmouth action could be on the cards this weekend.

Although the Pirates have picked up nine of their 10 points on home soil so far this season, we are backing them to secure all three on the road against an out-of-sorts Brewers outfit this time around.

Charlton vs. Birmingham (Saturday, 3.00pm)

Aiming to record eight straight league wins, title favourites Birmingham City will visit an out-of-form Charlton Athletic side at The Valley on Saturday afternoon in League One.

The Addicks are looking to end a worrying run of defeats, whilst Blues are navigating a tricky period of fixtures with ease as the October international break approaches.

We say: Charlton Athletic 1-2 Birmingham City

After three straight defeats and a poor start against Bristol Rovers on Tuesday, we are expecting a response from Charlton at The Valley this weekend.

That being said, Birmingham are in sensational form and should, on paper, be comfortable winners in the capital, although we believe that Blues will only manage a narrow success.

Exeter vs. Cambridge (Saturday, 3.00pm)

After picking up more points in midweek, Exeter City will welcome League One's rock-bottom club Cambridge United to St James Park on Saturday.

The Grecians have won two of their last three games to move up the table, but winless Cambridge are still rooted to the foot of the standings.

We say: Exeter City 2-0 Cambridge United

Neither side scores many goals, but Exeter are full of confidence at the moment - and that is in short supply as far as Cambridge are concerned.

A home win is by far the most likely outcome, with the visitors left to contemplate at least another two weeks in last place.

Lincoln vs. Leyton Orient (Saturday, 3.00pm)

Lincoln City play host to Leyton Orient on Saturday afternoon looking to extend their lengthy unbeaten streak in the third tier.

At a time when the home side occupy fourth position in the League One standings, the visitors to Sincil Bank are down in 20th place.

We say: Lincoln City 2-1 Leyton Orient

With Leyton Orient having only lost once in five outings, Lincoln may not have it all their own way this weekend. Nevertheless, we are backing the home side to come through with another maximum points that could see them edge into the automatic promotion spots.

Mansfield vs. Blackpool (Saturday, 3.00pm)

High-flying Mansfield Town welcome Steve Bruce's Blackpool to Field Mill for an intriguing League One clash on Saturday afternoon.

The two teams meet for the first time since January 2017 when the Stags secured a slender 1-0 victory in League Two.

We say: Mansfield Town 2-2 Blackpool

Both Mansfield and Blackpool are in high spirits and will back themselves to come away from Saturday's contest with maximum points. An entertaining encounter should be on the cards, but with little to separate these two teams, the spoils may be shared on this occasion.

Both on the back of midweek victories, Rotherham United and Reading will square off at the New York Stadium on Saturday.

The visitors have moved within two points of the top six in the League One table with back-to-back wins, while their visitors climbed up to 17th spot with a crucial three-point haul on the road.

We say: Rotherham United 1-1 Reading

Rotherham United will hope that Tuesday's victory kickstart a winning run and a fast climb up the League One table, but they face a tough test on Saturday against a Reading side growing in confidence, and we anticipate a share of the spoils in South Yorkshire.

Stockport vs. Wigan (Saturday, 3.00pm)

Wigan Athletic will attempt to extend their five-game unbeaten run when they travel to Edgeley Park for Saturday's clash with Stockport County.

Meanwhile, the Hatters, who sit in fifth place, will look to make it three games without defeat after taking four points from their last two matches in League One.

We say: Stockport County 1-1 Wigan Athletic

Wigan may have gone five games without conceding, but they have won just one of their four away league matches this season, and with that in mind, we think that they will have to settle for a point like they did in their last league meeting with Stockport in 2003.

Wrexham vs. Northampton (Saturday, 3.00pm)

Wrexham will look to bounce back from their second league defeat of the season when they welcome Northampton Town to the Racecourse Ground on Saturday.

The Cobblers will also be hoping to produce a positive response after losing their last two matches without troubling the scorers.

We say: Wrexham 3-1 Northampton Town

Wrexham may have prevailed in just one of their last four games, but they have won all of their four home league matches this season, and we think that they will make full use of home advantage again to condemn Northampton to a third consecutive defeat.

Wycombe vs. Crawley (Saturday, 3.00pm)

Wycombe Wanderers are set to host struggling Crawley Town at Adams Park on Saturday, aiming to continue their strong start to the 2024-25 League One season.

The hosts are in eighth with 14 points from eight games, while the visitors are in 21st with seven points from their opening eight fixtures.

We say: Wycombe Wanderers 2-1 Crawley Town

While we expect there to be an improvement from Crawley in their first match under the new boss, Wycombe are in a fantastic vein of form heading into this game, and we expect them to pick up another win here.
