Hull City assistant boss Mike Phelan: 'We had to battle to victory'

Hull City assistant boss Mike Phelan admits that his side had to scrap their way to victory in their Championship clash against Bolton Wanderers.

Hull City assistant boss Mike Phelan has admitted that he was delighted with the club's battling 1-0 win over Bolton Wanderers at the KC Stadium.

The Tigers ended a three-game winless run in the Championship as Chuba Akpom's first-half strike was enough to fire them to the three points against Neil Lennon's men in a match low on quality.

Phelan told BBC Sport: "Games are a bit of a slog sometimes in the Championship but we're glad we've come through it and got three points.

"The idea is to have a great performance and get three points. They made it more difficult without creating a lot of chances apart from they have hit the post."

Hull rose to third in the standings with their victory on Saturday afternoon.
