Abel Hernandez earns a point for Hull City in Sheffield Wednesday draw

Hull City come from behind to draw 1-1 with hosts Sheffield Wednesday in the Championship, thanks to a second-half goal from Abel Hernandez.

Abel Hernandez's second-half goal ensured that Hull City came from behind to draw 1-1 with hosts Sheffield Wednesday in the Championship this afternoon.

Wednesday started the game brightly and they had shouts for a penalty turned away when Kieran Lee went down under pressure from Michael Dawson, but the referee waved play on.

Mohamed Diame sought to hit back for the visitors midway through the half, before being denied by a standout block from Sam Hutchinson at the back.

It was the hosts who were able to break the deadlock, however, when Fernando Forestieri broke free inside the area to turn home a loose ball and put his side 1-0 ahead after 28 minutes.

Hull were almost back in the contest just minutes later when Jake Livermore lashed his free kick towards goal, only for Keiren Westwood to make a strong save.

Lucas Joao might have given Wednesday a two-goal advantage just before the break, but Allan McGregor was equal to his effort on the edge of the City box.

Hull came out of the traps quickest in the second period and they found an equaliser through Hernandez, who responded well to a blocked effort to send in his sixth goal of the season.

The away side looked to build on the goal by pushing for a lead, and Hernandez came close again following some adroit attacking play from Ahmed Elmohamady out wide.

That was perhaps Hull's best chance for victory and they were almost made to pay before the end, when McGregor had to be on high alert to prevent Andrew Robertson from sending the ball into his own net.
