Preview: Huracan vs. Estudiantes - prediction, team news, lineups

Sports Mole previews Wednesday's Argentine Primera Division clash between Huracan and Estudiantes, including predictions, team news and possible lineups.

High-flying Huracan will be looking to keep their unbeaten run going when they host Estudiantes at Estadio Tomas Adolfo Duco on Wednesday night.

The hosts are one of two clubs yet to lose in the Argentine Primera Division in the second phase, while the visitors are without a win in their last seven matches across all competitions.

Huracan are one of the standout performers in the second phase, currently sitting top of the table with 14 points from six matches, level on points with second-placed Union but boast a superior goal difference.

Frank Dario Kudelka's men have been a transformed side compared to last season, picking up four wins and two draws - their latest result was a 1-1 draw with San Lorenzo last Saturday.

While Huracan might be disappointed with their most recent result, considering their opponents' struggles, they will be confident of bouncing back at home on Wednesday, where they have a perfect record of three wins from three in the league.

Despite a poor record against their next opponents historically, Huracan will be highly optimistic for victory given their opponents' current form.

Estudiantes, on the other hand, will be desperate to end a dreadful run when they travel to Buenos Aires, as the six-time champions are winless in their last seven matches across all competitions, including four in the league.

After taking wins in their opening two league fixtures against Tigre and Deportivo Riestra, Eduardo Dominguez's side have slumped, losing to Lanus and Sarmiento, while drawing with Godoy Cruz and Union.

These results leave Los Pincharratas in 16th place with eight points, level on points with Boca Juniors, Velez Sarsfield and Platense.

Estudiantes are also out of the Copa Argentina after losing 2-1 to Central Cordoba, while they also suffered defeats in the Copa Libertadores to Huachipato and finished bottom of their group after a draw with Gremio, exiting the continental competition.

Dominguez's team are without a win in their last three away games across all competitions, including league defeats to Sarmiento and Lanus, and this form offers little confidence in their ability to end their winless streak on Wednesday.

Team News

Huracan will remain without centre-forward Marcelo Perez, who has teamed up with the Paraguayan Olympic squad.

On the injury front, defender Fernando Tobio is nursing a muscle issue that is expected to keep him sidelined for the next couple of weeks.

Ignacio Pussetto (five goals), is the league's joint-leading scorer and he will be the man to watch out for once again.

Estudiantes will remain without the services of Javier Altamirano, who has been sidelined for the past four months, and Mauro Mendez, who has a cruciate ligament tear and is not expected back until next year.

Eric Meza and Santiago Flores are both ruled out for the away side due to muscle problems, while Enzo Perez has a calf muscle tear that has made him unavailable for selection.

Nehuen Benedetti will also be away for a couple of weeks after being called up to join the Argentine under 20 side for the COTIF Tournament.

Huracan possible starting lineup:
Meza; Souto, Pereyra, Carrizo, Ibanez; Alarcon, Echeverria, Fertoli; Cabral, Ramirez, Mazzantti

Estudiantes possible starting lineup:
Mansilla; Benedetti, Rodriguez, Lollo, Mancuso; Neves, Piatti, Ascacibar; Cetre, Carrillo, Palacios

We say: Huracan 2-1 Estudiantes

Huracan are arguably the most in-form side in the Argentine top division since the start of the second phase and they have been perfect on home soil.

Meanwhile, Estudiantes have looked short of ideas since May, which is why we think that this is a straightforward win for the hosts.
