Inter Milan held by Catania

Inter Milan share a goalless draw with bottom club Catania in their Serie A match at the San Siro.

Inter Milan have been held to a goalless draw by bottom club Catania in their Serie A match at the San Siro.

Rodrigo Palacio had a good chance to open the scoring for the home side in the fifth minute when he latched onto Esteban Cambiasso's through-ball, but he fired over the bar.

Midway through the half, Diego Milito came close to breaking the deadlock, but Alberto Frison pushed his low strike around the post.

After the break, Palacio worked a good opening for the hosts, but after bursting into the box, his strike was easily held by the keeper.

Gonzalo Bergessio almost gave the visitors a shock lead soon after. He picked up the ball on the edge of the box and curled an effort that narrowly went wide of the far post.

Inter were unlucky not to go ahead in the 50th minute when Palacio headed Cambiasso's cross onto the bar, before Leandro Rinaudo powered a strike over for Catania at the other end.

The home side were dominating the proceedings and Rolando's header from Ricky Alvarez's cross was saved by Frison.

Despite coming under late pressure, Catania held on to secure their first point away from home in the league this season and extend Inter's winless run to five games.
