Inter Milan vice-president Javier Zanetti insists that Mauro Icardi will not be leaving the Italian giants this summer.

Inter Milan vice-president Javier Zanetti has insisted that Mauro Icardi will not be leaving the Italian giants in this summer's transfer window.

Icardi scored 29 times in 34 Serie A matches for Inter last season, but it was not enough for the 25-year-old to earn a spot in the Argentina squad for the 2018 World Cup.

Juventus have recently been linked with a move for the centre-forward, while Manchester United, Bayern Munich and Real Madrid are also believed to be admirers.

Zanetti, however, has insisted that Inter's qualification for next season's Champions League means that they are in a strong position to keep Icardi at the club.

"It's disappointing he's not going to the World Cup, as he has proved he fits in with the Argentina squad," Zanetti told reporters.

"When you have a champion like him in the team, it's only normal to receive many offers, but Mauro is the captain and a reference point for Inter.

"We are happy to have him here and he is happy to be with us. We are not worried by transfer speculation, because he manifested his desire to remain and we in the Champions League, so wish to continue together. Every time he steps on to the field, he shows how much he cares about Inter."

Icardi has scored 107 times in 182 appearances for Inter since joining the club in 2013.
