Aberdeen come out on top in seven-goal thriller

Aberdeen score four first-half goals to beat Inverness Caledonian Thistle 4-3 in their Scottish Premiership match.

Aberdeen have beaten Inverness Caledonian Thistle 4-3 in a thrilling match in the Scottish Premiership.

Inverness started well as Nick Ross, Danny Williams and Richie Foran missed chances.

However, Aberdeen went 1-0 up when Barry Robson slotted in from the penalty spot after Josh Meekings had handled in the area. It was 2-0 soon after as Robson rose highest to head in Peter Pawlett's corner.

The home fans had to suffer again just five minutes later as Pawlett turned goalscorer, driving his shot into the bottom corner.

Aberdeen's incredible first half was not over, however. Moments before the half-time whistle, Niall McGinn put his side in complete control with a composed finish into the corner for a 4-0 lead.

The start of the second half was a different story. The home side came back into the match with Billy McKay's strike after 47 minutes, and their comeback continued when the same player tucked the ball in from six yards out.

McKay could have had his hat-trick shortly after, but his shot from inside the six-yard box was saved.

Both sides continued to attack as the second period progressed, with Gary Warren hitting the post, but the hosts finally got their third of the match when Graeme Shinnie headed in from Warren's cross. However, Aberdeen held on for the win.
