Ipswich Town secure FA Cup third round replay with Southampton draw

Southampton will have to replay their FA Cup third round tie against Ipswich Town following Sunday afternoon's 1-1 draw at St Mary's.

Despite a dominant performance, Southampton have had to settle for a 1-1 draw against Ipswich Town in this afternoon's FA Cup third round clash at St Mary's.

The first effort of the game came courtesy of the visitors in the eighth minute, Kevin Bru pushing forward and dragging his effort wide of Fraser Forster's right-hand post.

There was plenty of action early on as both sides were intent on opening the scoring, with Saints midfielder Victor Wanyama firing just wide from 25 yards and Stephen Hunt seeing his shot saved at the other end.

The deadlock was broken in the 19th minute when Tyrone Mings's deep cross fell to Darren Ambrose, who struck a precise header into the net to put the visitors ahead.

Southampton stepped it up a gear after conceding and duly found the equalising goal just after the half-hour mark when Morgan Schneiderlin latched on to a Graziano Pelle free kick and poked home.

Following the restart, Shane Long was felled in the Ipswich box following an energetic run forward, but his penalty appeals were waved away.

The Saints continued to dominate and, just after the hour, Pelle collected a Steven Davis pass before firing towards goal, but the shot was saved.

Despite finding themselves under siege throughout the latter stages of the game, Ipswich managed to survive the onslaught and were rewarded with a replay at Portman Road.
