Half-Time Report: Ipswich Town mistake gifts Sheffield Wednesday the lead

Sheffield Wednesday lead Ipswich Town at Portman Road thanks to Kieran Lee's fortuitous goal.

Mick McCarthy's Ipswich Town have dominated the first half of their clash with Sheffield Wednesday, but trail to a Kieran Lee goal that was gifted to the visitors.

Freddie Sears, on his full debut, collected a smart Daryl Murphy pass inside the opening five minutes, but his first-time shot was deflected behind for a corner.

The lively Sears then slipped a pass through to Darren Ambrose, but the midfielder's shot was turned behind by Kieren Westwood in the Wednesday goal.

Murphy curled an effort narrowly wide after escaping the attention of Tom Lees, before the away side took the lead against the run of play as a mix-up between Bartosz Bialkowski and Christophe Berra allowed Lee to fire into an empty net.

Murphy's surge from the halfway line culminated in a long-range effort that was clawed away by Westwood, before the Ipswich striker planted a header against the post in first-half injury time, but the home side trail at the break.
