Ipswich Town boss Mick McCarthy: "It feels like a defeat"

Ipswich Town boss Mick McCarthy admits that his side's draw against Brentford "feels like a defeat" following the Bees' two late strikes at Griffin Park.

Ipswich Town boss Mick McCarthy has conceded that his side's 2-2 draw against Brentford "feels like a defeat" following the Bees' late comeback at Griffin Park.

The Tractor Boys held a 2-0 lead going into stoppage time in their Championship opener as goals from Kevin Bru and Ryan Fraser put them ahead.

However, Andre Gray reduced the deficit before James Tarkowski netted in the dying seconds of the match to earn Marinus Dijkhuizen's men a point.

McCarthy told the club's official website: "It feels like a defeat because they have scored so late in the game. If we came in after 92 minutes, I would have seen it as a great performance but my mood changes in the blink of an eye and it's the same for everyone else in the dressing room as well.

"We didn't deal with the long ball and we didn't deal with the corner at the end. Bart felt he was impeded but the referee wasn't going to give us the sympathy vote.

"I'm disappointed but I'll look at the performance on Sunday and know it was a good one and that we should have had the three points to show for it."

Ipswich face Stevenage in the Capital One Cup on Tuesday.
