Daryl Murphy earns Ipswich Town fifth straight away win at Brighton & Hove Albion

Daryl Murphy scores the only goal of the game as Ipswich Town beat Championship promotion rivals Brighton & Hove Albion for a club-record-equalling fifth straight away win.

Ipswich Town have matched a club record with their fifth straight away league win thanks to Daryl Murphy's first-half strike at Brighton & Hove Albion.

In a match between two of the Championship's top six, Ipswich were the first to go close on the quarter-hour mark when Kevin Bru's long-range effort rattled the crossbar.

Fifteen minutes later Brighton had the ball in the net, but Jamie Murphy's close-range effort was flagged offside after Ipswich keeper Dean Gerken had tipped Dale Stephens's shot onto the bar.

Moments later Ipswich took the lead when Murphy surged through on goal after Lewis Dunk's slip and placed the ball past David Stockdale and in off the far post.

The woodwork was struck for a fourth time shortly after, and again it was Bru as the Ipswich midfielder this time struck the post from Ryan Fraser's cutback.

Ipswich sat on their lead in the second half, and Brighton went close to an equaliser when Rajiv van La Parra hit the side-netting and substitute Bobby Zamora also hit the bar with a flicked effort.

Ipswich stay sixth despite the win, but they are now one point behind Burnley, who they next face on Saturday, above them. Brighton are three points better off in fourth.
