Late Ipswich Town break Bolton Wanderers

Ipswich Town leave it late to defeat Bolton Wanderers at Portman Road.

Ipswich Town have recorded a 1-0 win over Bolton Wanderers at Portman Road thanks to a late goal by Carlos Edwards.

The result sees the Tractor Boys rise to 17th in the Championship, while Dougie Freedman's men are in eighth.

Edwards had an early chance to put the hosts in front, but he could only find the side netting with his header.

Andy Lonergan made a good save from Andy Drury, before Daryl Murphy wasted the best chance of the first half by scuffing wide from David McGoldrick's cross.

The Trotters began brightly after the restart and Chris Eagles had the chance to test Stephen Henderson, but he fired wide of the mark.

McGoldrick nearly produced a fine solo effort just after the hour mark, but his curling shot went just beyond the far post.

David Ngog wasted a golden opportunity to break the deadlock in the 76th minute, as Kevin Davies's cross found him unmarked.

However, the Frenchman headed wide from six yards out to the relief of the Portman Road faithful.

Bolton were punished for that wasted chance by Edwards, who fired home at the second attempt after latching on to Jay Emmanuel-Thomas's cross.
