Tommy Smith scores a brace as Ipswich Town beat Middlesbrough 4-0 in the Championship.

Ipswich Town have thumped Middlesbrough 4-0 courtesy of a brace from Tommy Smith.

After a nervy opening 10 minutes the first chance of the game fell to the hosts, but Luke Chambers's header from a corner went wide of the post.

Carlos Edwards went for goal from distance in the 20th minute but he too was unable to test Jason Steele in the Boro goal.

However, Ipswich's dominance paid off with Tommy Smith heading home from a corner to give struggling Town the lead.

In the second half the floodgates opened, firstly David McGoldrick firing into the bottom corner from just outside the box.

Aaron McLean scored a belter from outside the box to make it 3-0 before Smith completed the rout with another header.
