Ipswich Town confirm the signing of Hull City's Jacob Greaves for an undisclosed fee, with the centre-back putting pen to paper on a five-year deal at Portman Road.

Ipswich Town have announced the signing of Jacob Greaves from Hull City for an undisclosed fee.

The 23-year-old was the talk of the second tier during the 2023-24 term, helping Liam Rosenior's side to mount an ambitious push for the top-six positions.

Greaves and Hull were ultimately unsuccessful in their bid to finish inside the playoff spots, with a final-day defeat at Plymouth Argyle meaning that the Humberside club ended up in seventh, three points behind David Wagner's Norwich City in sixth.

Despite considerable disappointment around how the campaign concluded for the Tigers, the individual performances of the former Cheltenham Town have been praised considerably.

Missing just three Championship matches across the 2023-24 term, Greaves was a mainstay in the Hull backline alongside centre-back partner Alfie Jones.

Looking to bolster their backline ahead of their first Premier League season in two decades, Ipswich have secured the services of Greaves from Hull for an undisclosed fee.

Signing a bumper five-year deal at Portman Road, the 23-year-old will be contracted to the Tractor Boys until 2029, with the East Anglians looking to build a successful top-tier side around the towering defender.

Speaking to Ipswich's in-house media with the transfer confirmed, Greaves said: "I am absolutely delighted to have signed. As soon as I heard about the interest, I was keen to get the move over the line. Now that it is done I am really happy.

"I have spoken to the Kieran McKenna several times and those conversations have made me very excited for the future here. We spoke about tactics, playing style and life off the pitch and every time we have spoken it has been spot on.

"I am excited to have the opportunity to step up to the Premier League and I cannot wait to get started."

Greaves is ready for the Premier League challenge

Winning a place in the Championship's Team of the Year and collecting Hull's Player of the Season award, Greaves has shown that he is ready for the next step in his career.

As someone plying their trade in the second tier of English football, the obvious progression is to the Premier League, where Ipswich will be trying to avoid an instant relegation.

A competent left-footed defender, Greaves is likely to provide competition for Cameron Burgess's spot in the XI, with Luke Woolfenden often playing on the right of the centre-back pairing.

The Tractor Boys have also moved to sign Manchester City forward Liam Delap, who spent last season on loan at the MKM Stadium with Greaves from Manchester City.
