Mancini 'dreams of managing Italy'

Roberto Mancini has admitted that he would jump at the opportunity to take charge of Italy.

The Azzuri are without a manager after parting ways with Cesare Prandelli following their exit from the group stage of the World Cup last month.

Mancini, who led former club Manchester City to the Premier League title in 2012, is among the favourites to take over the hotseat but says that no contact has yet been made.

"It makes me very happy and proud to be in the thoughts of those who love the national team," the 49-year-old told Il Giorno. "I've always been patriotic, I never forget about Italy even when I've been working abroad.

"Who doesn't dream about coaching their national team? I'd come running. The reality, however, is that for now, no one has called me."

Mancini stepped down as manager of Turkish giants Galatasray in June.
