Lazio's title hopes are finally dead following their disappointing 1-0 defeat away at Calcio Catania.
With nothing between the two sides, it took Nicola Legrottagli's late strike to settle matters at the Stadio Angelo Massimino.
The decisive moment came after 80 minutes, when Christian Ledesma was forced to concede a corner.
Francesco Lodi took it short to Giuseppi Bellusci, who gave it back for Lodi to centre. His cross found Legrottagli, whose right-footed shot found the bottom left hand corner.
Miroslav Klose had a glorious chance to salvage a point for the visitors two minutes from time, when Christian Ledesma's free-kick found him just outside the six-yard box.
However, the German international's header was too high and Catania recorded a vital victory in the race for European qualification.
