Leeds United and West Bromwich Albion could reportedly be denied promotion if the Championship cannot be completed, with other clubs deeming the decision as unfair.
Current leaders Leeds are just one point ahead of West Brom - and the Midlands club sit a comfortable six points ahead of third-placed Fulham.
However, according to The Telegraph, top-flight clubs believe any decision to promote the two clubs without completing the season would be unfair, stating that both relegation and promotion to the Premier League should be treated equally.
The FA have warned clubs that it will not allow relegation to be cancelled.
The issue was raised during the Premier League meeting which took place on Monday, with Wednesday's EFL meeting likely to discuss the prospect of cutting down the season.
