Leeds United midfielder Rodolph Austin admits that it was "very pleasing" to be asked to captain the Championship club.

Leeds United midfielder Rodolph Austin has revealed that he was "shocked" to be asked to captain the Elland Road outfit.

Austin skippered the Whites for the first time at the weekend against Leicester City, and the Jamaican has admitted that he has been boosted by the confidence placed in him by manager Brian McDermott.

The 28-year-old told BBC Leeds: "I was shocked to be honest because I didn't know the gaffer had so much respect for me and saw me as a leader.

"He called me to his office on Friday and I was blown away. I said I wanted some time to think about it but he insisted that I take it because he thought I would do a good job.

"It's very pleasing to have been asked to do the job and an honour to be the captain of such a big club."

Austin made 33 appearances during his debut season at the Championship side.
