PGA Tour star Rickie Fowler reveals that he holds an interest in becoming an investor in Leeds United.

PGA Tour star Rickie Fowler has revealed that he is looking to invest in Leeds United, who have just been relegated from the Premier League.

Last week, Leeds revealed that owner Andrea Radrizzani had agreed to sell his majority stake in the club to co-owners 49ers Enterprises.

That will result in 49ers Enterprises - the owners of NFL franchise San Francisco 49ers - taking over as owners of the Championship club should an alleged £170m deal become official in due course.

While that process is expected to be completed, Fowler has taken the opportunity to reveal that he is keen to become an investor in the Yorkshire giants.

The five-time PGA Tour winner and former world number four says that he and fellow American golfers Jordan Spieth and Justin Thomas are interested in owning a part of the English club.

Speaking exclusivity to Sky Sports News, Fowler said: "There is the group that's moving forward with being involved with Leeds. Myself, JT (Justin Thomas) and Jordan (Spieth) potentially will be a part of it.

"It's cool to have those opportunities. I know we are looking into it. It will be fun if we get to be a part of it.

"Obviously they got relegated, but to be able to go to a Premier League game, Champions League, I feel like, obviously you call it football over there, we call it soccer here, it's a massive sport."

Fowler, Spieth and Thomas are currently preparing for the US Open, the third major of the year which begins at the Los Angeles Country Club on Thursday.

Meanwhile, Leeds are going through the process of appointing a new manager after their relegation to the second tier, with former Norwich City boss Daniel Farke regarded as the favourite by the bookmakers.
