Preview: Leeds United vs. Sheffield Wednesday

Sports Mole previews Saturday's Championship clash between Leeds United and Sheffield Wednesday at Elland Road.

Leeds United will attempt to continue their unbeaten start to the league season when they welcome Sheffield United to Elland Road in the early start in the Championship on Saturday.

Despite the home side's lack of action in the transfer market, it has been an encouraging start to the campaign with a 2-1 win over Brighton & Hove Albion followed by a 0-0 draw with Leicester City last weekend.

Wednesday, however, have lost both of their fixtures thus far this season against Queens Park Rangers and Burnley, while they were also beaten in the League Cup by Rotherham United.

The corresponding fixture last season ended in a 2-1 win for Leeds, but Wednesday did secure a share of the spoils on their home patch in the previous campaign.

Leeds boss Brian McDermott could hand a start to Matt Smith after the former Oldham Athletic forward appeared from the bench last time out.

Luke Varney could drop to the bench after picking up a slight niggle in training, but Rodolph Austin is expected to continue in the middle of the home side's midfield.

Wednesday, meanwhile, could continue with the same side that lost to Burnley last time out, but there could be a role for Christopher Maguire in attack after his impressive cameo last week.
