Mirco Antenucci equaliser denies Brentford at Leeds United

Mirco Antenucci grabs an equaliser to secure Leeds United a 1-1 draw with Brentford at Elland Road.

Substitute Mirco Antenucci's second-half strike helped Leeds United remain unbeaten as they drew 1-1 with visitors Brentford this afternoon.

The Italian striker capitalised after the Bees gave the ball away while playing it out from the back to finish past David Button.

Marco Djuricin gave Brentford the lead on the half-hour mark, coolly finishing off a slick counter-attack after Alan Judge had broken clear from midfield.

The Bees almost took the lead after two minutes, only for right-back Gaetano Berardi to clear Konstantin Kerschbaumer's shot off the line.

Whites captain Sol Bamba then nearly gifted Djuricin an early goal with a sloppy pass back, only to be bailed out by his centre-back partner Liam Cooper who got back to nip the ball away from the 22-year-old.

Leeds manager Uwe Rosler, who had a spell in charge of Brentford, threw striker Antenucci on in place of Alex Mowatt at half time.

However, the away side should have doubled their lead only minutes after the break, Jake Bidwell somehow managing to head wide from two yards out.

In truth Djurican could have had a hat-trick on his first appearance, but the former Red Bull Salzburg forward hit the post after a mistake from Marco Silvestri gave him a golden opportunity.

Only minutes later Leeds's Kiwi forward hit the upright himself with a scruffy effort which took a deflection, before Antenucci showed his class with a smart finish.

Both sides had chances to snatch victory, with the home side finishing the match on top, but ultimately Brentford were left to rue a host of missed chances.
