Mirco Antenucci penalty earns Leeds United draw

Mirco Antenucci scores from the spot as Leeds United fight back to draw against 10-man Bolton Wanderers.

Mirco Antenucci's late penalty has earned Leeds United a point away to 10-man Bolton Wanderers.

Leeds, who drew 1-1 at Fulham in midweek, nearly fell behind at the Macron Stadium after Darren Pratley headed Derik Osede's cross wide of the target in the opening stages.

Pratley again went close as directed another effort over the bar, but the Trotters suffered an early injury setback as Gary Madine limped off, with Shola Ameobi replacing the ex-Coventry City frontman.

Liam Feeney then wasted another chance as his shot failed to test Marco Silvestri as Steve Evans's side managed to stay on level terms after the opening half an hour.

However, they would fall behind 13 minutes before the interval when a skidding corner beat several United players and into the path of a grateful Ameobi, who netted his first for the club.

Within seconds of the restart, Leeds were almost on level terms as Antenucci was denied by Ben Amos.

United were awarded a penalty with 19 minutes left, however, after Prince Gouano brought down Antenucci and was sent off for his troubles.

The Italian dusted himself down and steered his spot kick beyond the reach of Amos as Leeds sniffed their first victory under their new manager.

Alex Mowatt almost earned the Whites three points, but his stoppage-time shot was save by Amos as Bolton held on for a draw.
