Leeds United and Newcastle United are reportedly two Premier League sides who are monitoring Reading midfielder John Swift.
The 26-year-old has less than nine months remaining on his contract at the Madejski Stadium and the Royals are at risk of losing him for free next summer.
According to The Star, Sheffield United failed with a £3.5m bid to sign Swift this summer, and the player would only consider a move to Bramall Lane if they were promoted to the Premier League this campaign.
Leeds and Newcastle are therefore the frontrunners for the midfielder's signature, especially if they retain their places in the English top-flight.
Talks between Swift's representatives and Reading to potentially extend his contract are failing to progress, so the Championship outfit may consider his sale in January for a cut-price fee.
Swift has enjoyed an impressive spell in front of goal so far this season, scoring eight goals and providing six assists in 14 league appearances.
