Brendan Rodgers feels that Leicester City are 'ready to turn a corner' after they thrashed East Midlands rivals Nottingham Forest on Monday night.

Brendan Rodgers has backed his Leicester City side to build on their 4-0 demolition of rivals Nottingham Forest on Monday evening.

The Foxes went into the East Midlands derby sitting bottom of the Premier League standings after collecting just one point from their opening seven matches.

However, Rodgers witnessed his side show a ruthless streak when presented with opportunities from outside of the area, their opening three strikes all coming from distance.

James Maddison netted two of those goals, the first being a deflected effort which deceived Dean Henderson before the Forest goalkeeper was left equally perplexed as Maddison curled a trademark free kick in off the post from 25 yards out.

In between those goals, Harvey Barnes found the bottom corner from the edge of the area, with the final contribution seeing Patson Daka smartly flick a close-range effort past Henderson after meeting Maddison's low pass.

The victory at the King Power Stadium has moved Leicester level on points with Forest but above their most recent opponents in the table on goal difference.

Speaking to Sky Sports after the game, Rodgers acknowledged that his players must find a way to back up their performance in their next outing versus Bournemouth.

The Northern Irishman said: "It's been too long but I thought we were excellent tonight, with our intensity and pressing in the game. It was a great night for the players and brilliant for the fans. I said if we could get a result tonight then we could push on.

"We've got a lot of technically gifted players but you can't win football matches without the desire to win the game. In key moments in other games we haven't defended well but we have tonight and we've kept a clean sheet, which is also very important."

When quizzed on the future, Rodgers feels that his squad and the club in general are well-equipped to move on from what he describes as an "horrendous summer".

Rodgers added: "When you don't win games it comes on to you. We had a horrendous summer, that's the reality of it and that continued into the start of the season.

"I just had to remind the players of their ability and continue to support them. They have bags of resilience. We just needed to turn that corner tonight and we did that. We have to back it up against Bournemouth now."

Leicester square off against Bournemouth on away territory on Saturday before playing back-to-back home games versus Crystal Palace and Leeds United respectively.
