Nigel Pearson: 'Matthew Upson closing in on return'

Nigel Pearson confirms that Leicester City defender is likely to play for the club's under-21 side as he edges closer to returning from a foot injury.

Leicester City manager Nigel Pearson has claimed that Matthew Upson could return to action next week.

Upson joined the Foxes in the summer on a free transfer after leaving Brighton & Hove Albion, but he has been forced to wait for his debut due to a foot injury.

However, the England international has been back training with the first-team squad, and could make an appearance in Monday's Under-21s match against Benfica.

"Matt is training very well at the moment but hopefully he will play some part of a game next week, possibly," Pearson told reporters. "He is making good progress."

Leicester, who are currently 18th in the Premier League, host Sunderland on Saturday afternoon.
