Preview: Randers vs. Leicester City - prediction, team news, lineups

Sports Mole previews Thursday's Europa Conference League clash between Randers and Leicester City, including predictions, team news and possible lineups.

Leicester City make the trip to Denmark for the second leg of their Europa Conference League playoff tie with Randers holding a 4-1 advantage.

However, while the Foxes are clear favourites to progress through to the last 16, they only have one clean sheet in away games this season.

Despite witnessing his Leicester side suffer a 2-1 defeat at the hands of Wolverhampton Wanderers, manager Brendan Rodgers spoke positively about the trajectory of his team.

Nevertheless, the Foxes have only prevailed once in seven matches, that victory coming last Thursday as the Premier League outfit made light work of their Danish opponents.

Three second-half goals in the space of 25 minutes could ultimately prove to be the difference in this tie, but Leicester's lack of clean sheets on their travels will not go unnoticed.

The only shutout came away at Millwall in the EFL Cup earlier in the season, although Leicester have only been provided with three away fixtures since the turn of the year.

On a more positive note, Leicester have scored in 16 of their last 17 matches in all competitions, the only time that they failed to score being away at Liverpool in the Premier League.

Last week's fixture at the King Power Stadium represented Randers' first competitive outing of the year so a second-half capitulation did not come as the biggest surprise.

Thomas Thomasberg's team were back in action in the Danish's top flight on Monday, but they went down by a 1-0 scoreline at home to eighth-placed Viborg.

Still just three points adrift of the top four, Randers have plenty to be positive about, although they have now lost five of their last six fixtures in all competitions.

Vito Hammershoy-Mistrati got the consolation strike in the East Midlands, but he has netted just once in 10 outings in Superliga.

Team News

With Leicester having no Premier League fixture at the weekend, Rodgers may be prepared to select a stronger starting lineup than initially anticipated.

James Maddison and Kelechi Iheanacho could return in the final third, while Boubakary Soumare may be brought back into the side as a replacement for Wilfred Ndidi or Youri Tielemans.

Jannik Vestergaard is an option in the middle of the backline, with either Daniel Amartey or Marc Albrighton potentially deputising for Ricardo Pereira at right-back, and Harvey Barnes may be named on the substitutes' bench after recovering from a hamstring issue.

Thomasberg made numerous changes for the game at Viborg, partly to rest players for this contest and also to get other squad members up to speed.

Stephen Odey could keep his spot in attack, replacing Alhaji Kamara, while Hugo Andersson will hope for a second successive outing in the middle of the defence after moving to the club in January.

Randers possible starting lineup:
Carlgren; Kallesoe, Andersson, Graves, Kopplin; Ankersen, Lauenborg, Johnsen, Kehinde; Hammershoy-Mistrati, Odey

Leicester City possible starting lineup:
Schmeichel; Amartey, Vestergaard, Soyuncu, Thomas; Soumare, Ndidi, Dewsbury-Hall; Morrison, Iheanacho, Lookman

We say: Randers 1-2 Leicester City (Leicester City to win 6-2 on aggregate)

If statistics are anything to go by, you have to expect Leicester to concede at least one goal against their Danish opponents on Thursday evening. Nevertheless, the Premier League side should score further strikes of their own, too, to ensure that they cruise through to the next round.
