Leicester City see off Blackpool

Leicester City beat Blackpool 3-1 in their Championship match at the King Power Stadium.

Leicester City have extended their unbeaten league run to 16 matches after a 3-1 victory over Blackpool at the King Power Stadium this afternoon.

Riyad Mahrez had an early sight of goal for the home side when he cut in from the right and worked himself some space, before bending an effort wide of the far post.

They came close again moments later when Anthony Knockaert was found in space inside the box by Jeff Schlupp, but he fired his attempt into the side-netting from a tight angle.

Leicester were dominating the opening exchanges and David Nugent was next to come close, as he burst into the box before drilling a strike wide.

Mahrez nearly opened the scoring when his low shot crept under Matt Gilks, but the keeper recovered in time to stop the ball on the line.

Blackpool then almost took the lead against the run of play when Neal Bishop rose unmarked to meet Andrew Halliday's corner at the back post, but he directed his header wide.

Jamie Vardy should have found the back of the net for the home side when he met Ritchie de Laet's low cross at the front post, before placing his effort wide.

The striker missed another big opportunity to put Leicester ahead minutes later as he latched on to Mahrez's through-ball, before placing an effort wide of the post with the keeper beaten.

Four minutes before the break Blackpool took the lead, as Jack Robinson's long throw was missed by Kasper Schmeichel and David Goodwillie was on hand to fire in from close range.

Blackpool had a great chance to score a second within minutes of the restart, as Goodwillie poked Halliday's low cross wide from just a few yards out.

Leicester pushed for an equaliser and made their pressure count on the hour mark, as Mahrez cut inside from the right before firing a strike into the top corner and out of the reach of Gilks.

With eight minutes left to play the home side took the lead through Wes Morgan, who rose highest at the back post to meet Mahrez's cross and power a header into the roof of the net.

Kevin Phillips made the points safe in the 87th minute when he was found in space by Gary Taylor-Fletcher, before rifling a strike into the top corner.

Phillips had a chance to score a second moments later when he was picked out by Matty James, but with just the keeper to beat he blazed his shot wide of the post.
