David Nugent is reportedly close to agreeing a move to Middlesbrough after he pulled out of a Leicester City Under-21 game on Monday.
The Foxes left the former England international out of their squad for their 4-2 victory over Sunderland on the opening day of the Premier League season.
According to the Daily Mail, Nugent was also pulled out of City's U21 game against Manchester United on Monday night to discuss a possible switch to the Riverside Stadium.
It is thought that Nugent was told of Boro's interest on Friday and was given permission to speak to Middlesbrough boss Aitor Karanka.
Nugent joined Leicester from Portsmouth in 2011.
