Leicester City announce that goalkeeper Kasper Schmeichel has signed a five-year contract extension at the King Power Stadium.

Leicester City goalkeeper Kasper Schmeichel has signed a new five-year contract extension at the King Power Stadium.

The 31-year-old Dane has been a key figure in the Foxes' rise from middling Championship side to Premier League champions since his move from Leeds United in 2011.

Schmeichel was instrumental in Leicester's promotion to the top flight in 2013-14, their survival battle the following season, and their Premier League title triumph in 2015-16.

"I'm very happy to be here for many more years," the custodian told the official club site. "I've spent the majority of my career at Leicester now and had some amazing times here, so hopefully we'll have some more.

"I've felt at home at this club from day one, so I'd like to thank the fans for the support they've given me and also the owners who've played a huge part in my career. I want to bring more success to this club as I've loved every minute and hopefully we can keep going in the right direction."

Schmeichel, who was reportedly a target for Chelsea in the summer, helped Denmark to the last 16 at the World Cup in Russia and saved three penalties as they were knocked out by Croatia.
