Match preview

Leicester are languishing in 11th position after winning one, drawing three and losing seven of their 11 WSL matches this season.

The Foxes have lost five of their last six league games (D1), including a narrow defeat in last Sunday's away meeting with Tottenham Hotspur.

Leicester were unable to find an equaliser following Sophie Howard's early own goal, as they failed to trouble the scorers for the eighth time in the WSL this season.

In fact, the Foxes have failed to score more than one goal in any of their 11 league games this term, highlighting a key area for improvement if they are to move away from danger.

After failing to win their last three league meetings with Liverpool, the hosts will enter Sunday's fixture with aspirations of clinching their first head-to-head WSL victory since running out 4-0 winners in April 2023.

Liverpool are currently two points adrift of the top half of the table after winning three, drawing three and losing five of their 11 league matches this season.

The Reds experienced a disappointing end to 2024, losing four consecutive WSL games against Chelsea, Everton, Manchester United and Arsenal.

However, they ultimately used the winter break as a chance to reset because returned to action with a narrow 2-1 home victory over Brighton & Hove Albion last weekend.

Olivia Smith saw her opener cancelled out by Nikita Parris, before a Jocelyn Carabali own goal handed Liverpool their first home league win of the season.

Matt Beard's side will now head on their travels with hopes of enjoying another successful away trip against Leicester after easing to a 4-0 victory on their most recent visit to the King Power Stadium in May 2024.

Team News

Liverpool Women's Sophie Roman Haug on September 15, 2024© Imago

Leicester are expected to be without Jutta Rantala, Noemie Mouchon, Deanne Rose, Shana Chossenotte and Lena Petermann, while Hannah Cain is a doubt after missing the defeat to Tottenham.

Sari Kees was also absent from the most recent matchday squad, but their appears to be some optimism that she could be ready for Sunday's fixture.

Amandine Miquel can no longer call upon Emilia Pelgander, who has joined Swedish side FC Rosengard on loan for the rest of the 2024-25 season.

As for the visitors, they are likely to be without Niamh Fahey, Sofie Lundgaard, Faye Kirby and Jasmine Matthews.

Sofie Roman Haug is closing in on a return to action, but it remains to be seen whether she will be available for Sunday's fixture.

Sam Kerr is set to retain her place in the side after making her Liverpool debut in the recent wins over Brighton.

We say: Leicester City Women 1-2 Liverpool Women

Liverpool will be in high spirits after getting the better of Brighton last weekend, and we think they will make it back-to-back victories when they face a Leicester side that have lost five of their previous six league matches.
