Preview: Leyton Orient vs. Tranmere Rovers - prediction, team news, lineups

Sports Mole previews Saturday's League Two clash between Leyton Orient and Tranmere Rovers, including predictions, team news and possible lineups.

Leyton Orient will be looking to clinch back-to-back victories when they face Tranmere Rovers in League Two on Saturday.

As for the visitors, they enter the final game of the season fully aware that to move into the playoffs, they need to win and for results elsewhere to go in their favour.

When Richie Wellens took over the reins at Leyton Orient on March 9, his new side were sat in a lowly 20th position, with just four points separating them from the relegation zone.

However, the new boss has overseen a superb run of form that has resulted in Orient collecting 23 points in their 12 matches under Wellens's tutelage.

They have managed to win seven of those 12 games, with the latest of those victories taking place last weekend when Leyton Orient ousted Crawley Town by a 2-0 scoreline.

Theo Archibald opened the scoring for the O's, and although Aaron Drinan missed a spot kick, the Irishman eventually grabbed his side's second goal, with the forward wrapping up the 2-0 victory in the fifth minute of stoppage time.

As a result of the three points, Orient occupy 13th place and if they beat Tranmere and Crawley drop points against Oldham Athletic then the O's would finish the season in the top half of the table.

Tranmere, meanwhile, enter the final matchday of the League Two season with their playoff hopes still alive.

Micky Mellon's side kept their hopes of a top-seven finish alive after they beat Oldham 2-0 last weekend, with goals from Josh Hawkes and Kane Hemmings helping Rovers to all three points.

That result saw them move into ninth place, with two points separating them from Swindon Town who currently occupy seventh spot.

Although Tranmere will be aware that even a win might not be enough if results elsewhere do not go their way, they must first and foremost remain fully focused on the job at hand on Saturday.

To stand any chance of breaking into the top seven, Rovers need to end a nine-game winless away run, as they bid to clinch a league double over Leyton Orient after winning 1-0 in the reverse fixture.

Team News

Jordan Brown came into the side to start in the win over Crawley and the 20-year-old is expected to be in from the off once again on Saturday.

In fact, following the win last weekend, Wellens may be tempted to name an unchanged lineup for the final game of the season.

That would mean that Drinan will continue to feature in the frontline as he looks to add to the 13 league goals that he has scored this season.

As for the visitors, Callum McManaman is a doubt after missing the win over Oldham due to a concussion.

Joe Murphy and Tom Davies came back into the side last weekend after recovering from their injury issues, and they will retain their places in the side for Saturday's contest.

In fact, Mellon could name an unchanged side following the comfortable 2-0 victory that Tranmere picked up against the Latics.

Leyton Orient possible starting lineup:
Vigouroux; Brown, Beckles, Mitchell, Wood; Obiero, Kyprianou, Khan; Archibald, Smyth, Drinan

Tranmere Rovers possible starting lineup:
Murphy; Dacres-Cogley, Davies, Clarke, MacDonald; Hawkes, O'Connor, Warrington, Morris; Hemmings, Nevitt

Although Tranmere need a win to stand any chance of securing a playoff place, their recent away results combined with Leyton Orient's upturn in form suggests that Rovers may end up on the losing side on Saturday.
