Russell Slade: 'Leyton Orient were undone by a Championship player'

Leyton Orient boss Russell Slade describes Preston's Joe Garner as a "Championship player" after the 25-year-old inflicted defeat on the O's today.

Leyton Orient manager Russell Slade has claimed that his team's 1-0 defeat to Preston North End was borne out of a moment of magic from a "Championship player" in Joe Garner.

Garner provided the match-winner for the Lilywhites at the Matchroom Stadium this afternoon, expertly volleying past goalkeeper Jamie Jones from outside the area to inflict a first home loss of the season on the East London outfit.

Consequently Orient slipped to second in the League One standings behind Wolverhampton Wanderers.

However, Slade insists that he will not dwell on the result by stating that his team came undone by a "wonderful finish" from the 25-year-old - who has had spells with Blackburn Rovers and Watford.

"You are [disappointed the ball got to Garner for the goal] but it was a wonderful finish," Slade told reporters.

"As I said in my pre-match notes, they have players who have played at a higher level and the goal was a finish from a Championship player."

The Londoners travel to Swindon Town next Saturday in a bid to reclaim their spot at the summit of England's third tier.
