Monaco took the lead within 10 minutes as Vincent Enyeama failed to collect Valere Germain's cross, allowing Mounir Obbadi to capitalise and finish into an empty net.
The visitors began to ease themselves into the match as the half wore on and could have had a penalty shortly after the half-hour mark as Salomon Kalou's effort appeared to strike the arm of Nicolas Isimat-Mirin, but the referee was unmoved.

They did get an equaliser just before the break, however, launching a quick counter-attack that saw Kalou and Ryan Mendes combine to set up Divock Origi, who swept the ball home from close range.
Neither side could add another goal in the closing stages of the half as they went into the break all square and with everything to fight for in the second half.
