Sadio Mane's record vs. Porto

Ahead of Liverpool's Champions League clash with Porto on Wednesday, Sports Mole takes an in-depth look at Sadio Mane's record against the Dragons.

Liverpool will seek a fifth win from as many matches in the 2021-22 Champions League when they welcome Porto to Anfield on Wednesday night.

The Reds have already booked their spot in the last 16 of the competition and put five past Sergio Conceicao's men in a 5-1 drubbing at the Estadio do Dragao two months ago.

Sadio Mane found the back of the net once on that day, and the Senegalese attacker has developed something of a prolific streak against the Portuguese giants.

Here, Sports Mole takes a closer look at Mane's record against Porto.

Liverpool have become synonymous with four and five-goal drubbings on Porto's turf in recent years, and Mane played a starring role in his side's 5-0 win at the Estadio do Dragao in the first leg of their last-16 clash in the 2017-18 campaign.

In what was his first appearance against Porto, Mane scored a hat-trick on their turf to put Liverpool in the driving seat, although he would draw a blank in a second-leg goalless stalemate as Liverpool still progressed with ease.

Liverpool and Porto would renew hostilities once more in the quarter-finals of the 2018-19 tournament, and Mane would fail to register in the 2-0 first-leg win at Anfield before coming up with the goods in Portugal once more.

The former Southampton man struck the game's opening goal in the first half before setting up Virgil van Dijk's header in the dying embers of a 4-1 success en route to his side's sixth European cup.

Mane's prolific streak at the Estadio do Dragao would continue in the early stages of this season, as he scored Liverpool's second in their 5-1 success on the stroke of half time, with the old guard of Mohamed Salah and Roberto Firmino also complementing Mane's strike.

In total, Mane has won four and drawn one of his five games against Porto and boasts six goal contributions - five strikes, one assist - in that impressive streak.

However, all of those contributions have come away from home, and the 29-year-old will be intent on breaking his Anfield duck against Porto this week, assuming Klopp elects to field him from the start.
