Liverpool vs. Lille: Head-to-head record and past meetings

Ahead of Tuesday's Champions League clash between Liverpool and Lille, Sports Mole looks at the head-to-head record and previous meetings between the two clubs.

Liverpool are set to host Ligue 1 side Lille at Anfield in the Champions League on Tuesday, a match in which the Reds could qualify automatically for the round of 16.

The Reds are first and need just one more point to ensure qualification to the next round of the competition, while Lille occupy the league phase's final round of 16 qualification spot and are eighth with 13 points.

Arne Slot's side must be wary of Tuesday's opponents given they are currently third in the French top flight and have already

However, Slot will feel confident that his team can get the job don considering the Reds are the only club to have won all six of their Champions League games so far.

Here, Sports Mole takes an in-depth look at the head-to-head record and previous meetings between the two sides.

Liverpool and Lille have only met twice before in Europe, with the Res progressing from the Europa League round of 16 after winning 3-1 across two legs in the 2009-10 season.

Rafael Benitez was in the dugout for the Merseysiders, but his side lost the first leg 1-0 away from home on March 11, 2010 after Chelsea legend Eden Hazard scored the only goal of the game for the French side in the 85th minute.

The result was perhaps a surprise given Benitez fielded the likes of Steven Gerrard, Fernando Torres, Jamie Carragher and Javier Mascherano from the start.

In the second leg on March 18, the Merseysiders ran out 3-0 winners thanks to a brace from Torres and a ninth-minute penalty from Gerrard.

Lucas Leiva won the penalty when he dribbled into the box and drew a foul from Adil Rami, and the reliable Gerrard opened the scoring.

Lille frustrated the Reds for large periods of the fixture, with Hazard and Ludovic Obraniak posing a significant threat out wide during counter-attacks.

Torres doubled the lead after Rami badly misjudged Ryan Babel's pass into behind in the 49th minute, allowing the Spanish striker to race through on goal and lob goalkeeper Mickael Landreau.

The forward finished the game off when he netted his side's third in the 90th minute, intelligently following up a rebound from Gerrard.
