Liverpool captain Jordan Henderson hopes to join an elite list of players to have skippered the Reds to European Cup glory when his side take on Real Madrid this weekend.

Jordan Henderson has insisted that he is "feeling good" and ready to write his name into Liverpool folklore with victory against Real Madrid in the Champions League final.

The 27-year-old is aiming to become just the fifth person to skipper the Reds to European Cup glory, following in the steps of Emlyn Hughes (twice), Phil Thompson, Graeme Souness and Steven Gerrard.

Henderson is adamant that Saturday's showdown at the NSC Olimpiyskiy Stadium is not about proving himself against some of the club's greatest-ever players, though, but instead about joining them in the Anfield annals with his current crop of teammates.

"I'm feeling good. But it's not about me. It's not about me filling anyone else's shoes," he said at Friday's pre-match press conference. "It's about this team and creating our own history.

"We've done fantastically well to get to this point but we want to go one step further and be remembered for the right reasons and that's us winning the Champions League."

Liverpool have defeated Porto, Manchester City and Roma en route to the final.
