Toulouse picked up their first-ever victory over Liverpool in their most recent encounter in November 2023, running out 3-2 winners at home in their second meeting of that season's Europa League group stage.

The match was not without controversy, though, with Liverpool's Jarell Quansah being controversially denied a 97th-minute equaliser due to an adjudged handball by Alexis Mac Allister much earlier in the move.

However, Jurgen Klopp's side could not have many complaints in the grand scheme of things, having put in a lacklustre display which allowed Toulouse to go 2-0 up and then quickly restore their two-goal lead after a bizarre own goal from Cristian Casseres.

Diogo Jota then pulled another back for the Reds in the 89th minute, but it was not enough to maintain their unbeaten record in this fixture.

It was a far cry from the Anfield meeting, which saw Jota again on the scoresheet as he fired home after just nine minutes in October 2023.

Toulouse then equalised through Thijs Dallinga, who also netted in both meetings, but Liverpool were comfortable by half time courtesy of Wataru Endo's first goal of the club and a Darwin Nunez strike, before Ryan Gravenberch and Mohamed Salah made it 5-1 in the second half.

Prior to that Europa League double-header, the only previous competitive meetings between these two sides came in the third qualifying round for the Champions League in 2007-08, the season after Liverpool were beaten finalists in that competition.

Any exit would have been a major upset for the Champions League runners-up, but Rafael Benitez's side comfortably avoided that fate with a 5-0 aggregate win.

The first leg in France saw Andriy Voronin get the only goal of the game shortly before half time, and the Reds completed the job in emphatic fashion on Toulouse's only previous trip to Anfield.

Peter Crouch opened the scoring in that match, before Sami Hyypia doubled the advantage shortly after half time and Dirk Kuyt then added a late brace to make it 4-0.
