Former Liverpool midfielder Patrik Berger believes that the Reds need to secure Champions League football for next season in order to attract elite players.
The Merseyside outfit are currently second in the Premier League table, two points adrift of leaders Arsenal after 11 games.
"So far, so good this season," Berger told the Liverpool Echo. "Liverpool are just a couple of points from the top of the table and if somebody had offered me that at the start of the season then I would've taken it.
"They are doing really well and if they can stay there over the Christmas period and then make a few additions then they can keep going.
"If you can get into the Champions League you will attract the best players. The best players want to be playing Champions League football year in, year out."
The Reds will take on Merseyside rivals Everton at Goodison Park after the international break on November 23.
