Emre Can says that he and his Liverpool teammates would have gained a lot of "respect" from rival clubs following their performance against Manchester City.

Liverpool midfielder Emre Can has claimed that rival teams in the Premier League would have been impressed by the team's performance against Manchester City.

Jurgen Klopp's side ended City's unbeaten 22-game run in the top flight with an entertaining 4-3 victory at Anfield on Sunday afternoon.

Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, Roberto Firmino, Sadio Mane and Mohamed Salah got on the scoresheet for the Reds, and three of those goals came in the space of eight minutes in the second half.

"It was unbelievable," Can told the Liverpool Echo. "Look at how we pressed, I think it was the best game. We played against Manchester City, you don't have to forget that!

"We were always on the front foot, everyone pressing and everyone doing a brilliant job. I don't know how many kilometres we ran. If the teams saw us playing like that, they will give us a lot of respect and we will take a lot of confidence.

"We don't have to pick one player out. Every single player performed and did an amazing job. Teams watching our performance will think 'oh wow!' They will see we are a strong side but it's just one game and we have to keep going."

Liverpool are currently third in the league table, three points behind second-placed Manchester United following a 14-game unbeaten run.
