Kenny Dalglish backs Steven Gerrard to reach 100 England caps

Kenny Dalglish thinks that Steven Gerrard will want to get to 100 England caps before he retires from international duty.

Liverpool manager Kenny Dalglish believes that club captain Steven Gerrard will be tempted to continue his England career in order to reach 100 caps.

The Reds talisman recently admitted that he will consider quitting international football after the European Championships this summer.

The 31-year-old midfielder suffered a blow this week after Tottenham Hotspur's Scott Parker was named captain for England's 3-2 defeat to the Netherlands at Wembley.

"He obviously must enjoy representing his country if he's done it 90 times," said Dalglish. "To get 100 caps for your country is a proud achievement.

"To represent the football club you have supported all your life is an equally proud achievement as well.

"If he's got a decision to make he's got a decision to make but I couldn't say one way or the other. It's up to the individual. They've also got the European Championships coming up this summer and that is an attraction as well."

Gerrard remains a doubt for Liverpool's fixture against Arsenal this weekend after picking up a thigh strain on Wednesday.
