Kenny Dalglish says that no player is guaranteed a starting place in Liverpool's team.

Liverpool manager Kenny Dalglish has said that veterans Steven Gerrard and Jamie Carragher are not guaranteed places in the team.

Midfielder Gerrard is expected to be put straight back in the side once he has recovered from a groin injury, while 33-year-old Carragher has been criticised by some groups of supporters this season.

"Nobody will get picked for their history," said Dalglish. "The people who have been involved with the club for a long time would not expect that. They would not want it.

"[Gerrard and Carragher] have got extremely high standards that they set for themselves. If they did not, they would would not be here and they would not have had the success they have had."

Liverpool make the trip to White Hart Lane to face Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday.
