Jose Enrique insists that he deserves a call-up to the Spanish national side.

Jose Enrique has insisted that he deserves a place in Spain's national squad ahead of next year's European Championships in Poland and Ukraine.

The left-back has been in consistent form for Liverpool, leading to some calls for the player to be introduced into the Spain squad.

However, Spain currently have an embarrassment of riches in most positions. Enrique currently sits behind Jordi Alba in the pecking order, though the 25-year-old has acknowledged the Valencia player "is doing a very good job".

"I think I deserve a chance," Marca quotes Enrique as saying.

"I think that just for the fact that I've managed to play for a team like Liverpool, they should be thinking of me."

Enrique joined Liverpool from Newcastle in the summer.
